    Rural Water Supply Department

    The Rural Water Supply Department was established in the year 1998 under Zilla Parishad, Akola. Under this department, 7 sub-divisions namely Akola, Murtijapur, Barshitakali, Patur, Balapur, Akot, Telhara, and Ground Water Survey and Development System and Maintenance and Repair (Mechanical) are functioning. Through this system, various drinking water solution plans are being implemented in rural areas. Implementation of plans to alleviate water scarcity, maintenance and repair of new borewells and irrigation hand pumps etc. are being carried out and regional water supply transferred to the Zilla Parishad is being operated. This department works with the state and central governments to provide clean drinking water in rural areas.

    Responsibilities: 

    1. Planning, estimating, and executing water supply schemes.
    2. Maintaining water supply schemes.
    3. Ensuring that water supply schemes meet the requirements of the Zilha Parishad.
    4. Reporting on the progress of water supply schemes.

    To ensure Sustainable, equitable and accessible drinking water for all rural communities in district and improved quality of life through efficient water management and Infrastructure.

    The Rural Water Supply Program is a demand-driven strategy and includes the Central Government-sponsored Enhanced Velocity Program, Swajaldhara and State Government-sponsored Mahajal as well as non-tribal/tribal work in 2009 Since 2010, the Union Government has decided to transform the programs into the National Rural Drinking Water Program Jal Jeevan Mission. Accordingly, it is committed to providing water to families in rural areas as per “Har Ghar Jal” (FHTC- Functional House Hold Tap Connection) by 2024. By 2024, the main goal of Jal Jeevan Mission is to supply quality water to every household in rural areas of the state through individual tap connections of at least 55 liters per day.
