    Panchyat Department

    The major component of rural development of the Zilla Parishad is the Panchayat Department. Under the three-tier Panchayat Raj system, the establishment of Gram Sevak/Gram Vikas Adhikari, who are very close to the people at the village level, as well as the establishment that solves the problems of the district above the village level, is working under this department. Various development schemes of the Zilla Parishad are implemented through the Gram Panchayat. This department also controls the collection of Gram Panchayat and water supply tax. There are a total of 541 Gram Panchayats in Akola district.

    The Gram Panchayat Department is an important department out of the total 16 departments in the Zilla Parishad. The Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Panchayat) is the head of this department. All the Panchayat Samiti / Gram Panchayat level plans and other ancillary works of the Zilla Parishad that require the approval of the Chief Executive Officer are carried out.

    • Implementation and monitoring of schemes as per the government decision of the Government of Maharashtra, Rural Development Department.
    • Taking action as per the Maharashtra Gram Panchayat Act – 1959.
    • All work related to establishment of employees in the cadre of Extension Officer (Panchayat), Village Development Officer and Gram Sevak under the Gram Panchayat Department.
    • Disbursement of government grants to Gram Panchayats.
    • Training programs for Sarpanch / Upasarpanch / Members.
